This is IT. The face of Hell. This is THE volume of Berserk and conclusion the 2nd arc of the series tying its end with the beginning of volume 1. If you thought the previous volumes were about as gory as it gets you are DEAD WRONG. You know something is up when the cover has a bloodied armless Guts holding a completely nude Casca in anger. This is Guts first encounter with the dreaded Godhand and also the marking point in his life when everything turns upside down. His leader Griffith betrays him and takes to the "dark side". His lover Casca raped right in front of him with nothing he can do. He fellow members of the Band and friends mutilated, torn, ripped, and gutted . Sebastian Fernandez said "Is this hell?! Did we sin that much?!". This is what fans were waiting for, the volume that makes everything come together. Now we finally understand Guts behavior when we first met him in volume 1, as the Black Swordsman, and we also get to find out how he lost his arm and why he hates Griffith. This volume almost feels like a rebirth of all the main characters, since they suffer a transformation that is so drastic, that it is hard to picture it by using a different metaphor. The level of violence is at an all-time high, but once again, there is a clear purpose behind it, and in this case it comes with an important psychological aspect. You could almost say that Guts undergoes a . Guts, Guardian Angel or Crazed Demon? Volume 13 of Berserk begins the extreme bloodshed of the innocent and not-so-innocent. Guts (or Gatsu) fights off the demons from Hell and beyond to not only prolong his life, but to save his lover, Caska. The rage that is depicted of Guts is just amazing. I can feel and definitely understand his rage and helplessness as he is beaten despite his best (and almost inhuman) abilities. If you've seen the Berserk anime, you will certainly love this volume, since they both depict the scenes with surprising accuracy. This volume also explains Guts' mechanical arm with repeating crossbow and his lost vision in one eye.**WARNING: This volume is prob
The Hawks’ tortured and mutilated former leader, Griffith, has used the accursed Crimson Behelit to open the gates to a shadowy realm of unspeakable horrors, the realm of the demon lords of the Godhand, who are willing to transform Griffith into a being of terrible power and majesty as long as Griffith is willing to give up his former command as sacrifices in the Invocation of Doom. The Band of the Hawk may have been the most formidable band of fighters around, but when matched up against an army of abyssal monstrosities, earthly fighting skills don’t amount to a hill of beans. But nobody takes down the Hawks without a fight, and their berserker champion, Guts, will take on anything Hell can throw at him in order to save his lover, Casca, from the sordid violations that only Hell can offer.
