Looking Forward to a Production Michael A. Thomas A Play is difficult to review until there’s a performance. Reading a play requires more reliance on imagination than is needed for the fiction I enjoy. To give a play its due, the reviewer must imagine a good performance of the play. I did my best with Henry Bender’s “Between the Trees” but will have to wait for a production to see how well it comes off the page. On the page, the play has many delights and surprising depths. The title is, perhaps, a courtesy nod to Stephan Sondheim’s “Into the Woods,” a play that shares something of both setting and theme with “Between th
