DESCRIPTION:

Plastics and fire, what you need to know. hottieredhead64 Wow, who would have known the dangers for fire fighters in the era of plastic.. "A Must Read for ALL Firefighters" according to Chief Ron Youngberg. As an Operations Chief and Training Officer for Columbia River Fire & Rescue in St. Helens, Oregon I have always struggled with keeping my firefighters in their SCBA during the 'routine' overhaul stage of our fire operations. After reading this book and making it a required read for our Officers, we have been able to enlighten the troops and the requests to remove SCBA during fire operations has significantly decreased.. Excellent transaction A great price for this book. Was not expecting to receive it so quickly. Would not hesitate to order from them again.

Wallace does convince the reader that existing combustion tests, standards, fire and building codes, code enforcement, emergency services, public agencies, and private companies send out false assurances, and that neither firefighters nor the public are adequately protected against very toxic or fatal fumes from burning plastics. . Lib., N.Y.Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc. From Library Journal The bulk of this book consists of six case studies of major fires through which Wallace attempts to create sentiment against plastics, especially polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and for fire safety regulation--much as Rachel Carson did for pesticides in Silent Spring. The book is only a partially successful synthesis of technical and popular material; recommended for larger collections only.- Jan ice Dunham, John Jay Coll. Her model of a successful resolution is the New York State Building Code, passed in 1986
