Five Stars LINDA BUTERBAUGH great book, a must read.. "Human Spirit and Close Friendships" according to Andy. In full disclosure, I know at least 80% of the individuals named and participated on/with them in AK. I truly enjoyed the quick short recollection of the time and happenings of many of these events. It is well worth reading and I smiled as I remembered a number of the stories. If you are interested in the human spirit and craziness that happens, fire fighting, outdoors cam. "He is a wonderful storyteller. His stories are very entertaining - and" according to RID. I admit to a huge bias in reviewing this book. But for years I have been listening to my husband's stories about his smokejumping experiences. He is a wonderful storyteller. His stories are very entertaining - and make me wish that I had considered a career in fire. His story collection reveals his sense of humor and his love of jumping. Makes a wife proud.

He began smokejumping in McCall, ID in 1968 and transferred to the Alaska base in 1975. He currently lives with his wife and teenage boy in a log house he built several miles off the grid in central Washington.
