Unexpected stories in a great series My boys 7 and 9, who are not big readers, LOVE this series. We use these books for our read aloud time (parents read to kids). They beg me to read more. My 9 year old could read the series himself. My 9 year old only liked non-fiction until this series. The stories are unexpected. The series is not for those who are cautious with the word "hate". A.J., the main character, hates a lot of things, but the unusual story perspective really is a winner in my house. You might find it helpful. Mom of one rambunctious boy said Not a "nice/ feel good/ morals learned" series. Not sure I want my six-year-old reading this series after reading the books myself first, just to see what all the fuss is about. The protagonist repeatedly announces his hatred for school and demeans his female peers. Additionally, these books are filled with words I wish my son wouldn't say, like "stupid" "dumbhead" "shut-up" etc. etc. I imagine children find the series comical/ entertaining/ likeable, and the books ARE easy to read after all. But I cannot in good conscience endors. Great set! My nephew loves this series and wanted a few for Christmas. Found this set and it was cheaper than buying them separately. He lives out of state, so I sent them along with his other gifts. His parents said he was most excited about these!
