Rick Wagoner, the CEO of General Motors, tried to turn around a dying company, only to be forced to resign as a condition of the government bailout. This tale of an iconic industry in crisis is more than a big business drama and provides a rich, unvarnished portrait of how Detroit’s decline affected tens of thousands of workers and dozens of communities nationwide. It holds your attention, keeps complicated situations relatively simple, and really draws you into the drama that the automakers were facing in the mid-2000's. If you enjoy following the automotive industry you'll love this book.I'd also recommend Taken for a Ride - another well written book that takes a behind the scenes look at Daimler Chrysler. That knowledge will make the Chrysler parts of this book even more interesting as you watch that merger unraveled.. Good book about an important era in the car industry. You want to know more about what took place in those hectic years that reshaped the US auto industry? This book should be on your list. Well written and provides good insights in the sequence of events.
