Being a die hard Charlie fan anyway, I thought I knew what to expect from the book.It's so much more than I anticipated: luminous, wise, a genuinely fascinating read and of course graced with Shreve's spectacular photography. The book fleshes out a lot of the backstory behind how Shreve, a free spirit in the best sense, adapte. "An exceptional life" according to Rushmore. No matter how you feel about Shreve's decision to take in an orphaned baby coyote, her struggles with Charlie and with adapting to life in the wilds of Wyoming make compelling reading. The love story with the cowboy definitely takes a back seat. Shreve is a free spirit from the beginning, she had already ridden cross-country on a Vespa, but when she fell in love with Wyoming while driving through, and rented a house there sight unseen, the decision
